Wednesday was a very historic day as the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on a case that is referred to as United States V. Skrmetti.
It deals with legislation passed in Tennessee in 2023 that prohibits transgender reassignment surgeries on minors and use of certain prescription medications for the purposes of gender reassignment.
“We want to make sure that we protect children to be able to make that decision as an adult if that’s what they so choose. Now this is specifically focused on minors,” said Senator Walley, District 26.
Up to about 26 states have now passed similar bills. The Supreme Court has decided that they need to determine the constitutionality of these laws that have been passed and have chosen this Tennessee law as the test case for the country.
