Following the Supreme Court hearing on Tennessee’s ban on transgender medical treatments for children, a transgender activist who was inside the courtroom remains hopeful. So are those behind Tennessee’s law.

The Supreme Court seemed reluctant to overturn the ban impacting 3,000 Tennessee transgender teens and hundreds of thousands more nationwide. “It was just purely political.. it was let’s use these poor kids and these families as a pawn.. and we’re like.. we just want to be able to take her to the doctor,” said Samantha Williams, L. William’s mother.Givens is also transgender and was one of the few people inside the Supreme Court for this historic case.Givens testified against the original bill passed last year by the Tennessee Legislature co-sponsored by Senator Jack Johnson.
