“Under the existing formula, we fund processes. We fund bureaucracies. We don’t fund the kids,” Johnson said. “Gov. Lee is saying, ‘We need a student-centered funding system.”

“I watched every bit of it. I watched the Williamson County School board meeting. I did it. I’m very proud of them for taking that action, and they did the right thing. I would argue they probably should have never implemented a mask mandate, but they did the right thing in removing it.”

Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) on Monday criticized a ruling from a Tennessee judge, which halted a new law that prevented mask mandates in schools. Calling the decision “judicial overreach,” Johnson argued that U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw of the Middle District of Tennessee stepped outside his boundaries.

SB 0765/HB 0786 was introduced by Sen. Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) and Rep. William Lamberth (R-Portland) would permit both open and concealed carrying of handguns for anyone over 21 and 18 for military members.
